                               CIVILWAR v5.0a

This file will contain the changes or revisions to the The Civil War
game and will serve as a quick guide to SysOps in setting up upgrades.

FOR VERSIONS PRIOR TO VERSION 5.0 NOTE, TREAT THIS AS A NEW INSTALL!

Whats new in V5.0a of Civil War?
 --------------------------------
 Hardware support upgrade!

All new communications library support for COM1-4 and non-standard IRQ
as well as 16550 high-speed UART support toggle (auto is defaulted).
DTE speeds to 115.2kbps are now supported on all ports.

Command line options have been streamlined and previous Node #, and BBS
dropfile type are no longer needed! More is detailed within the new
extended format CIVILWAR.CFG file. Read this carefully! The name for
the configuration file can be any valid DOS filename now, which allows
for maximum customizing for multinode BBS's. (.ie War1.cfg, War2.cfg,
War44.cfg, etc.) This is passed on the commandline or the program will
default to reading the standard CIVILWAR.CFG file.

 The following special options are available only via commandline;

Non-standard IRQ support. The following is an example of how to set it.

     Civilwar Cwar1.cfg irq=5

Non-standard IRQ can be passed via the IRQ=x switch where x = the new
IRQ value. The supported values are 2,3,4,5,7,10,11,12,15.

To disable automatic 16550 uart support, add the switch FIFO=OFF.

To set the game for local keyboard play outside a BBS, use the following
switches; Local for non-color, /Local/c for color mode.

 Example; Civilwar civilwar.cfg Local/c

DO NOT USE the old SETUP.EXE program to setup your civilwar.cfg file from
a previous game version, as the new config file format is different. Note
the different lines for registration information now as well!

Until registered, multinode play is locked to one player at a time in
the game. While in use, the game will inform others trying to enter it
that it is in "play". Once registered, up to 255 nodes can play the game
simultaneously in full SHARED mode provided that SHARE.EXE is loaded on
 the current machine.

 End of WhatsNew.
