Instructions for Star Trek - Klingon Incursion!

  1. When you see command printed, enter one of the legal
     commands for example N)av S)rs L)rs P)ha T)or S)he D)am C)om or e(X)it.

  2. If you should type in an illegal command, you'll get a short
list of the legal commands printed out.

  3. Some commands require you to enter data (for example, the
'Nav' command comes back with 'Course (1-9) ?'.) If you
type in illegal data (like negative numbers), that command
     will be aborted

The galaxy is divided into an 8 x 8 quadrant grid and each
quadrant is further divided into an 8 x 8 sector grid.
You will be assigned a starting point somewhere in the
Galaxy to begin a tour of duty as commander of the Starship
    Enterprise.

Your Mission: To seek and destroy the fleet of
klingon warwhips which are menacing the united federation of
    planets.

You have the following commands available to you as captain
    of the starship enterprise:

    (N)av Command = Warp Engine Control -- 4 3 2
Course is in a circular numerical \|/
          vector arrangement as shown: 5 -+- 1
Integer and real values may be /|\
          used. (Thus course 1.5 is half- 6 7 8
way between 1 and 2) Course
          Values may approach 9.0, which
          itself is equivalent to 1.0.

One warp factor is the size of
          one quadrant. therefore, to get
from quadrant 6,5 to 5,5, you would
use course 3, warp factor 1.

Impulse drive is also set here.
If you are in a Sector and you want
to move 1 space, use Warp Factor .1
To move 2 spaces, ise Warp Factor .2

(S)rs Command = Short Range Sensor Scan
Shows you a scan of your present quadrant.
Symbology on your sensor screen is as follows:
             <E> = your starship's position
             +K+ = klingon battle cruiser
             >B< = federation starbase (refuel/repair/re-arm here!)
              *  = star
             (P) = planet:
Planets are also shown on the short range scan.
they will appear as (E) for earth, (V) for vulcan etc.
             (E) = Earth (A) = Andoria (T) = Tellar prime
             (V) = Vulcan (R) = Rigel (C) = Alpha centauri
             (?) = Mystery Planet

(L)rs Command = Long Range Sensor Scan
Shows conditions in space for one quadrant on each side
of the Enterprise (which is in the middle of the scan)
the scan is coded in the form ###, where the units 1's digit
is the number of stars, the tens digit is the number of
starbases, and the hundresds digit is the number of
klingons. Planets are not shown on LRS!
         Example - 207 = 2 Klingons, No Starbases, & 7 Stars.
If the display shows a xxx, that is the edge of the
quadrant and you cannot go that direction.

    (P)ha Command = Phaser Control.
Allows you to destroy the Klingon Battle Cruisers by
zapping them with suitably large units of energy to
deplete their shield power. (Rember, Klingons have
         phasers too!)

(T)or Command = Photon Torpedo Control
Torpedo course is the same as used in warp engine control.
If you hit the Klingon vessel, he is destroyed and
cannot fire back at you. If you miss, you are subject to
his Phaser Fire. In either case, you are also subject to
the phaser fire of all other Klingons in the Quadrant.
The Library-Computer (C) Command) has an option to
compute Torpedo trajectory for you (option 2)

Direction of the torpedo is the same 4 3 2
as navication. You can fire your \|/
Torpedos in directions of whole numbers 5-+-1
or any number in between. for example /|\
you can fire at 1.5 which is halfway 6 7 8
         between 1 and 2.

    s(H)e Command = Shield Control
Defines the number of energy units to be assigned to the
shields. Energy is taken from total ship's energy. note
that the status display total energy includes shields energy

(D)am Command = Dammage Control Report
Gives the state of repair of all devices. where a negative
'State of Repair' shows that the device is temporarily
         damaged.

    (C)om Command = Library-Computer
         The library-computer contains six options:

Option 0 = Cumulative Galactic Record
This option showes computer memory of the results of all
previous short and long range sensor scans. It is a good
way to track where you have been, and where to find
            Klingons and Starbases.

         Option 1 = Status Report
This option shows the number of Klingons, Stardates,
and Starbases remaining in the game.

Option 2 = Photon Torpedo Data
Which gives directions and distance from the Enterprise
to all Klingons in your sector

Option 3 = Starbase Nav Data
This option gives direction and distance to any
            Starbase within your sector

         Option 4 = Direction/Distance Calculator
This option allows you to enter coordinates for
            direction/distance calculations. This is used
to calculate from your current location in the
Quadrant (x,y) to another Quadrant location (a,b)

         Option 5 = Galactic /Region Name/ Map
This option prints the names of the sixteen major
galactic regions referred to in the game.

(I)nv This gives you a listing of your current Inventory.
You can Drop (Remove) items from your Inventory.

(W)alk Around - This allows you to get up from your command
chair and move around the inside of the ship. During
this 'Mode' of the game, you can move around inside
the ship. While in each room, there will be a list
of Items in the room. You can (G)et these items
and they will be placed in your inventory.

When in this 'Mode', there will be additional commands
available to you. They will be listed on the Commands:
           line. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, U, D, B, S are all directional
movement commands (Like the (N)av command. The U and D
are for Up and Down movements (like in a Turbolift).
The B or S commands are available when you are in a
situation where you can Beam up or down, or use the
           Shuttle Craft.

Additionally, there may be a display of
==[ tal(K) with personsname ]== displayed just under
the Viewscreen. It is important to talk to everyone
because they may have Information or Materials that will
           Help you.

Also note the line that is displayed over the Viewport...
This shows your Personal Energy Level. This energy level
much like the Ships Energy, you need it to live. It is
reduced during Ground Attacks so it is important to keep
this level as high as possible. How do you Increase it?
By Eating of course... You have to have Food Items in your
Inventory. You can only Eat certain things, so be careful
           of what you consume...

If you are Docked, you can only use the Docking Port of
the Enterprise (Deck 4) to move to the Station. You
cannot use the Shuttle or Beam over.

If you are in Orbit of a Planet, you can then use the
Transporter (Deck 4) or the Shuttle Craft (Deck 5) to
go to the Planet Surface. Usually while on the planet
you will have to return to the landing site / beam down
point in order to back to the ship.

Warning. When you orbit a planet, it will give you
information about the planet's condition. For example
Vulcan is very Hot. You will need to have Hot Weather
Gear in your Inventory to go to the planet. if you
are in orbit of Andoria, you will need Cold Weather
Gear. If you Shuttle/Beam to Andoria or Vulcan
without the proper Weather Gear, you will be beamed
back to the ship and end up in Sick Bay... Embarrasing!

When orbiting Alpha Centauri, you will need
to have your Space Suit because of the Oxygen situation
on that planet. If you go there without a Space Suit...
           Well... you will die.

While on the Planet... If someone is asking for an item
and it is in your Inventory, you will be asked for it
with or without payment/trade. It's up to you what you
allow. Once you make the "Trade" the item is automatically
removed from your Inventory, and the "Trade" Item is
           put into your Inventory.

To return to the Bridge, you have to go back up the turbolift
to Deck 1, then go onto the Bridge (5)... Once on the
bridge, you have to si(T) back down to take command again.

In your Captains Quarters, you can maintain your Captains Log
as well as post 1-Line Messages on the Starfleet Bulletin Board.
You can also saVe and Re-load Games.

While on a Planet, and only in the open, not in a building,
Attacks by rogue Klingons are known to occur. The battle will
depend on what items you have in your Inventory. If you
have No Weapons (Phaser, Phaser Rifle etc...) then you will
have to battle using your Bare hands... Not a good idea.

If your Energy level drops below 1... you Die... So remeber to
Eat. You Cannot Beam Out of there in the middle of a Battle.

When on Planets and Space Stations, and you talK to people,
you may receive special orders to conduct. Such as finding
certain medicines for planets being ravaged by a desease...
or special requests from people to deliver items.. You can
choose to accept or decline these activities.

Yes, you can play the entire game and win it without ever
getting up from your Command Chair... But there is much more
fun to be had by Walking around, Beaming down, Shuttling down
to other planets and Exploring. While Walking Around, your
ship remains where it is, and Time does not pass in a sense...
Only movements of the ship takes away the time of the mission.
Walking around and Battling Klingons will add to your overall
score. Killing Klingon Battlecruisers will add to your Score
as well as your overall Rating.
