This file was last updated on 09/16/98

We have a couple files in the doc directory now and will be adding as we get
time.

Read the INSTALL file for installation instructions.

This software was written to make a user friendly bbs interface for the
linux operating system. It was also written to be very configurable. The
core of the bbs is the menu program which is just a shell really. It can be
configured by editing the files in the menu directory. You are able to
setup as many menu on your system as you like, nesting them in any which
way. Each menu has a menu screen which will usuallly display the options
for that menu but can display anything you would like it to. Each menu has
it's own configurable commands which can also have security levels atached
to them. The menu system also has on the file display files that will
display the commands in a specified format that the user has access to based
on security level. There are several internal commands that can be setup
for each menu plus you are abble to setup external programs also. Take a
look at the file doc/menu.txt for an explaination of the different commands
and how to set them up.

There is also a forum system that is used with The Board. With in a forum
the user can read from the forums message bases, download files from the
forums file areas, view forum bulletins, etc. The forum system is uses the
tbforum program in the bin directory. It is called by the menu shell. To
learn how to setup a forum in the menu shell read the file doc/menu.txt. To
learn how to setup the forum itself or to create a new forum read the file
doc/forums.txt. Each forum also has a forum sysop. The forum sysop will
most likely be the person running the bbs but you can also make a regular
user a forum sysop. The forum sysop will be able to use the forum edit
which is run from within the forum and can be used be remote user. It will
allow them to add/remove/edit the forum bulletins, news, file areas, and
message areas. To learn how to set the forum sysop read the file
doc/forums.txt

If you would like to take a look at the software up and running you can
telnet to theboard.dyn.ml.org. From there you can sign on as guest and
request an account, or if you just want to take a quick look you can sign on
as test and use the password test. The test account will give you normal
user access to the system, but if you plan on connecting more than once
please sign up for an account, it won't take that much of your time.

If you have any questions or comments send them to dbraun@gte.net
