[INTRODUCTION]
So, I decided to do a simple Tavern before finishing The L.O.R.D.
Catapult. Yea, I know there are a lot of Taverns (in the LORD
universe). But this is the first FREEWARE one I've seen that lets
users stay overnight in it, although there is a new one, Aladdin's
Palace, but it costs $1,000,000 to stay overnight! There's also a
SHAREWARE one I saw that has to be registered to let users stay
overnight. This Tavern has some interesting obscure stuff in it and
it's not too expensive!

BTW: Yes, I recycled a lot of this doc from The L.O.R.D. Cavern's doc.
That's because the install program's the same, and so why write a
completely new doc? One last thing, do not use this IGM with other
IGMs that lets users kill other users, it will screw everything up!
The only one I know of is Werewolf!!, but be warned!  {Jason}
----------------------------------------

Note 1: Jason's work on L.O.R.D. Catapult IGM was abandoned around 1999.

Note 2: It is NOT advised for sysops to attempt to install Outlands
Tavern in same directory as L.O.R.D. Cavern or the Gateway. Each IGM
works best in a separate subdirectory, due to usage of identical
names for Setup.exe and Extra.cfg files - when using prior versions.

Note 3: As of 11/21/2003, Outlands Tavern is now using OTSetup.exe
for the setup program. You can discard any pre-existing setup.exe file
for Outlands Tavern, from prior versions or betas.

 *OUTSTIME.DAT  : Time keeping file.
 *OUTLANDS.CFG  : Configuration file.
 *OT-EXTRA.CFG  : Extra configuration file.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

[REQUIREMENTS]
A computer!
LORD version 3.50+ (will work with version 3.25+, but then users cannot
stay in the Tavern overnight)(LORD 3.55+ needed for BADWORDS.DAT).
DOS version 3.1 or better.
SHARE installed for multinode systems.

** Note: Share.exe is not required for usage on systems using
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000/NT, Windows ME, Windows XP,
or non-Microsoft O.S.'s such as OS/2 or Linux. **

A Modem! 300-115,200 baud and any fossil lock baud rate up to 115,200.
286 or later processor. Memory! Very little needed to run.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

{ ==================== v1.5 Notes ====================================
  What about Fairy Food and Red Dragon Cocktail food/drink menu options?

  They will be coded and tested sometime in 2004. Only the player who
  is registered as the Sysop is able to see the place-holder entries for
  them. For everyone else, those options simply don't exist yet.
  ==================================================================== }

[UPGRADING]
From v1.0+:
Copy all files in this ZIP over the existing version's files. No
additional configuration is needed. You can edit OUTLANDS.CFG to
enter your handle, or it is just set as blank.

From v1.3a:
  * Unzip OUTS15A.zip into your Outlands IGM directory,
    overwriting the older version's program files.
  * Re-run OTSetup.EXE and verify that your settings are correct.
  * Delete pre-existing setup.exe file. It is no longer used.

From v1.4:
  * Unzip OUTS15A.ZIP into your existing Outlands Tavern IGM directory.
    Overwrite all existing files with those in the archive, which have
    newer file dates.
  * Delete pre-existing setup.exe file. It is no longer used.

  * Run OTSetup.exe.
    1) Verify that IGM shows correct config settings for LORD Path,
    for example.
    2) Run Extra Configuration. As of 11/21/03, the IGM no longer
    uses EXTRA.CFG file. Setup process will automatically create the
    new OT-EXTRA.CFG, and delete the old extra.cfg file.
    3) From Extra Config menu, Save your changes.
    4) In Main Config menu, Save changes and exit.

  * Manually edit 3rdparty.dat so that the Outlands Tavern entry
    reads:  The Outlands Tavern v1.5a.

    This is the official entry lines for the IGM that are used in
    3rdparty.dat file.. The first line will be based on where you
    have LORD and the IGM installed. Tweak second line to use your
    own LORD color code preferences.

C:\INTERNET\LORD\OUTLANDS\OUTLANDS.EXE *
`!T`3he `!O`3utlands `!T`3avern `!v1.5a

  * If using LordMenu, update its data files afterwards.

  * IF IGM has been used even once earlier in current day, after
    unzipping new IGM files, *ALL* users have to DELETE the existing
    outlands.dat file. As of v1.4E beta, the player database fields
    are expanded, so old outlands.dat files are no longer compatible.

    If you use beta dated Nov. 25 or later, you do not need to do
    the file deletion. Unless you get an RTE message when the IGM
    first loads afterwards. In which case, you DO have to do the
    file deletion and restart the igm again in LORD.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Updating from v1.5 to v1.5a:      {Added 01-05-2004}
    1) Unzip OUTS15A.ZIP into your existing Outlands Tavern IGM
       directory, overwriting all existing IGM files.
    2) No revision of existing v1.5 IGM configuration file is necessary.
    3) Modify entry in LORD's 3rdparty.dat file to read as follows,
       modified to your own computer's drive path information:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\OUTLANDS\OUTLANDS.EXE *
`!T`3he `!O`3utlands `!T`3avern `!v1.5a

    4) Resume normal usage of IGM. If using LordMenu, update its
       data files before re-entering LORD.

Reason for update: 1) Forgot to properly update Outscode.txt file.
    2) Forgot to do proper summary of v1.5 changes in OT-Whats.txt
    file as well. And 3) I forgot to include the correct CCL-Apps.txt
    file in the archive. So, I'm re-releasing the IGM to fix those
    screw-ups.  Donald. 01-05-2004 note.
====================================================================

Regarding Summer 2003 RHP Script programing changes:
====================================================
    (1) Use of GEMS@*@ *MAY* require use of "@VERSION@ 1.4b" statement
        in Outlands Tavern scripts. There was a glitch where it
        sometimes does not display Gems data correctly if older
        version numbers are used in the scripts.

    (2) Optional use of @;@@SCRIPTVERSION@ x.xx line - v1.4b+ Only.
        Purpose is for listing script version number.

    (3) Use of ARMORNUM, ARMOURNUM, or WEAPONNUM in scripts - v1.4b+.

    (4) Use of existing codes, and new weapon/armour codes, for
    assigning result of a computation to the VARIABLE1 - VARIABLE5 codes
    is enhanced, as of the v1.4b beta.

    (5) Use of existing codes, and new weapon/armour codes, with the
    @IF@ statements is enhanced, as of the v1.4b beta.

  * Most up-to-date source for info on RHP Language codes work is
    kept in the RHPTest program's documentation files. See the
    RHPTST13.ZIP.zip file for those, which is RHP Toolkit v1.3.

Regarding the Food/Drinks Menu:  {11/21/2003}
====================================================
   Except for Fairy Food and Red Dragon Cocktail items, -- which are
   only visible if your Config file's BBS Name entry says "Castle
   Camelot", -- all of the Food/Drink items are fully usable. I
   will finish work on those two menu items at a later time.

   This next stage work will start with v1.5b Beta, since v1.5a
   is being used for Jan. 05, 2004 re-release of the IGM.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

[INSTALLATION]

Put the files in the .ZIP archive in a directory off of your LORD
directory. May I suggest naming the directory "Outlands"?

Then run OTSetup. Press 'C' to configure first. The rest shouldn't be
too hard to figure out. Just answer all the questions. Installing
(pressing 'I' after leaving the configure menu) will put the IGM's run
lines into your LORD game's 3RDPARTY.DAT file, and an announcement that
The Outlands Tavern has been installed is added to LORD's Daily News
log file.

To edit OUTLANDS.CFG manually, here's a listing of it:

OUTLANDS.CFG Listing:

C:\INTERNET\LORD\
Unregistered BBS
Unregistered
Sysop
Sysop #1
000000

Line 1: Path to LORD with trailing backslash
Line 2: Your BBS name - Can be a web-site name also.
        If you have neither a BBS or a web-site, just make something up.
        The IGM needs something in this field, so it can't be blank.
Line 3: Your real first name
Line 4: Your real last name
Line 5: *NEW!* Your handle (optional). Displayed at start up instead of
        your real name, no effect on registration.
Line 6: Not used by The Outlands Tavern, but something must be here.

The path must be on the first line, and no comments are allowed unless
they are after the sixth line.

Jason: You'll notice that I said it'll use non-standard com ports in the
File_id.Diz, but there's not a configuration setting for that. That's
because it gets all that stuff from LORD's Node*.Dat file. As long as
LORD is set-up right, this will be set-up right in that respect. I wish
more IGMs used that Node*.Dat, too...

These are the lines put in 3RDPARTY.DAT by The Outlands Tavern:

<path to OUTLANDS>\OUTLANDS.EXE *
`!T`3he `!O`3utlands `!T`3avern`% v1.5a

Just in case you wanted to know. :^)

{ As of 05/03/03, the entry now includes the version number. }

========================================
Example: c:\lord\OUTLANDS\OUTLANDS.EXE * would be your first line,
if you installed LORD in an C:\Lord directory on Drive C:.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

[UNINSTALLING]
Note: To reset The Outlands Tavern, run OTSetup and press 'R'.
  Now why would you want to do that <G>? Well, run OTSetup, press 'U'.

I won't go into anything about IGM expanders, because this program was
really written for LORD 3.50, and that version got rid of the need for
them. The IGM is fully compatible with all versions of LORD, from v3.55
forward to v4.07 beta.

LORD/X and LORD/32 - As of Jan. 04, 2004, neither of the beta 32-bit
LORD programs runs IGMs. So no support is available for either one.

======================================================================
Provided the user is running LORD v3.50 - v4.00a - by Seth Robinson;
or v4.02 - v4.07 (beta) - by Michael Preslar; LORD will automatically
handle as many IGMs as you wish to install. However, unless you are
using the LordMenu utility, any IGMs installed over 24 will result in
the user having the Other Places menu scroll upward until the command
prompt appears. Use of LordMenu - by Lloyd Hannesson - allows you to
list installed IGMs in a two columns per line menu.

--   http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/utils/lrdmnu13.zip
--   http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/LordApps/lrdmnu13.zip
-----------------------------------------------------------------

[USING IT]
Just select it in the other places. It automatically does its maintenance
when the first person of the day enters. When someone has stayed overnight
in the Tavern, the following steps occur. LORD does Daily Maintenance (if
you are the first user of the day). LORD displays your mail if you have
any, and your current Stats screen is shown. Then LORD launches the IGM,
and you are shown waking up in your Tavern room.

As of LORD v4.0x versions, The Outlands Tavern is fully compatible with
all IGMs that allow users to kill others. One example is The Pawn Shop
v3.10. Once player is killed, their Out.* file MAY be destroyed by the
IGM that allowed the death to occur. When they return to the Tavern at
a later date, they will still be treated as having slept there overnight..

[CLOSING]
I hope you like this IGM! BTW: Parts of this IGM were ripped out of the
first IGM I was working on, but dropped, called The L.O.R.D. Castle, which
wasn't finished. Looks like all that work now has a home <G>. Dancing,
the Stats, and the ATM were originally from that ill-fated IGM. Now for my
list of thanks:

Bye to Horizon BBS <SNIF>!

Thanks to Thomas Wendland, aka Mathias, for doing the intro ANSI.

Thanks to everyone that Beta tested this.

Thanks to Seth Able Robinson for writing LORD, releasing the PLAYER.DAT
structure, and helping with the player fight setup.

Thanks to Jemery Kink (aka Draconith) of Dragon's Keep for also helping
with the player fight setup. Sorry to see your BBS go! <SNIF>
-----------------------------------------------------------------

                     [UPDATE NOTES - June-October 2002:]
-- Read OT-WHATS.txt file.

Corrected spelling errors in Documentation files for IGM. Updated
email address for Jason Brown. Note that his old jmbrown@mines.edu
email address does not work now. Updated web-site URLs where needed.
Added info regarding available RHP Scripts for Tavern IGM usage.
----------------------------------------

                     [UPDATE NOTES - January-December 2003: ]
January 2003: Docs updated with new web-site URLs.
    Castle Camelot:    http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/
    Kiteria's Korner:  http://www.fidotel.com/public/kiteria/

November 2003: As of Nov. 26, the IGM now protects sleeping player
from being attacked at same time by a second attacker. The sleeper
is also notified of the second attack attempt in their LORD mail,
and a notice of the event is added to LORD's Daily News. Once an
attack ends, which the sleeping player wins, they will again be
open to attack by a new attacker, later in the day.

December 2003: IGM will now kill player who risks doing Other Things
search repeatedly, if one or more RHP scripts executed, reduce the
player's HitPoints stat down to Zero, or below Zero. Lognow.txt entry
is made "PlayerName was killed by unknown means in The Outlands Tavern."
Then player is ejected from IGM, and then LORD will eject them also.

RHP Script execution that involves over-range LORD stats will now
result in the affected Lord stat being reduced to its upper limit.

Ex. Script processes Charm field. If Charm is 32,100 points, then
the processed script action will result in a LOSS of 100 charm.

Both changes are effective as of Dec. 24, 2003.

Later Version Work:
-------------------
1) Work on completion of Food/Drinks Menu, adding fully usable
   Fairy Food and Red Dragon Cocktail menu items.

2) Conversion of IGM from DDPlus to A.N.G.E.L. Toolkit.
   No timetable for either #2 or #3.
========================================

No other work is contemplated - until the 32-bit LORD ports, by
Michael Preslar, are available in Beta to LORD Authors. Then
32-bit versions of these programs may be created for use with
LORD/x (for Linux), LORD/2 (for OS/2), and Lord/32 (for Windows).

{FINAL CREDITS}
Thanks to Michael Everett, Gary Hartzell, Gordon Lewicky, and
Charlie Wardick for their assistance in beta testing updated
versions in summer 2002.

Special thanks to Charlie Wardick for lessons in learning PASCAL again,
learning how to use Turbo Pascal, and learning LORD programming.

Special thanks to Gordon Lewicky for identifying reason for IGM not
properly generating truly random numbers for determining which IGM
event is executed. Note that the faster the CPU is, the player will
still see some events occur more than others, or perhaps consecutively.

  Support Notice - LORD IGMs/Utilities.  Revised 10/03/03.
  ==========================================================
  I do not know or use Linux, so there will not be any Linux-based
  versions of my LORD programs. Unless some other LORD author wishes
  to do the work.

  As of late December 2003, LORD/32 remains in its 2nd beta, and
  appears to be in the freezer while Michael Preslar works on other
  projects. No info has been released to indicate how Lord/32 will
  handle/run existing 16-bit DOS igms or how one should proceed to
  make 32-bit LORD IGMs. Whenever that does happen, I may work on
  32-bit versions of my LORD games, or I may have an experienced
  Windows programmer friend take care of those projects.
