The ShareSpool serial printer network device from Extended
Systems lets you connect up to four users (more with external
bridges) to a single LaserJet IIP without the high cost of a LAN.

The ShareSpool 2040A replaces the LaserJet IIP standard I/O
interface plate and includes a 64K byte buffer for queuing up to
35 pages of text. Data transfer is 19.2K bits per second for
direct serial connections, or 9600 bps for modem connection at
the RJ-45 interface. An external bridge, ShareSpool 2076,
connects an additional 7 users and can support up to four levels
of bridging for a maximum of 28 systems. Cabling is sold in 50-
foot lengths and adapters are available from Extended Systems.

Price: 2040A, $395; 50-foot cable, $25; Serial to RJ-45 adapters,
$20; 2076 bridge, $995.
