As the Mac makes inroads into the business world, the IBM world
responds with software for image processing and graphics. Xerox
Imaging's Gray F/X lets you edit multiple images in a window
environment, providing up to 256 levels of grayscale editing.
The program combines image processing with bit-mapped painting
and tools that you can use to add text, cut and paste, and
highlight an image.

You can use Gray F/X to alter contrast, lightness, and darkness
of an image; special effects such as blurring and "charcoal'
can be applied to an image or a selected area. Other image
processing includes halftoning, filtering, posterization, and
histogram analysis (a numerical representation of contrast and
brightness).

The program's file import feature lets you create documents
with 8-bit images and create high-resolution halftones. For a
test print (pre-press), you can print on a laser printer. Gray
F/X also suppports higher resolution output devices for final
board printing.

To run the program, you'll need an IBM PC AT with 640K bytes of
RAM, (extended or expanded memory highly recommended), and a
VGA card and display. Microsoft Windows is not required.

Price: $495.
