To complement the two AT systems the company recently introduced
to the United States, Tiawan-based Copam Electronics is
introducing two laptops, a desktop and two EISA systems.

The laptops, the 286LT and the 386SXLT, feature 12-MHz 80286 and
16-MHz 80386SX microprocessors, respectively. Each weighs 12
pounds including the battery, and a battery quick-charger for
2-hour charge times weighs an additional 3 pounds.

Other laptop standards include backlit VGA screens, Nickel
Hydrate batteries, 1 megabyte of RAM (upgradable to 4), a 91-key
keyboard, a 3.5-inch 1.44-megabyte floppy disk drive, a
20-megabyte 28-millisecond 2.5-inch hard disk drive, sockets for
80287 and 80387SX math coprocessors, DOS and GW-BASIC. Options on
the 286LT include 40- or 100-megabyte hard disk drives. Both
laptops will be available in February.

The Desktop is a 16-MHz 80386SX with a small footprint and it
will be available in December. The CPU card fits in one of the
six AT-compatible slots and it includes the 1 megabyte of
standard RAM, though the board can be upgraded to include 4
megabytes. The motherboard has a VGA driver, and floppy- and
hard-disk drivers as well as the standard parallel port and two
serial ports.

The BIOS is Phoenix, and each standard system comes equipped with
a 1.2-megabyte 5.25-inch floppy or a 1.44-megabyte 3.5-inch
floppy-disk drive, a 101-key keyboard, DOS 3.3 or 4.01, and
BASIC. Optional is a 20- or a 40-megabyte hard-disk drive.

The EISA systems, which will be available in the first and second
quarters of 1989, have 33-MHz 80386 and 25-MHz 80486
configurations, respectively. You can choose either system in
tower or desktop configurations.

Each EISA system will basically have four AT- and four
EISA-compatible slots, a Phoenix BIOS, disk controllers for
hard- and floppy-disk drives on the motherboards, and 2 megabytes
of RAM (upgradable to 8 megabytes). Standard systems will also
include your choice of 1.2-megabyte 5.25-inch or 1.44-megabyte
3.5-inch floppy-disk drives, and 32K bytes of cache on a SCSI
cache controller. Any hard-disk drive will be optional.

Price: 286LT, less than $2,000; 386SXLT, less than $3000; SX
Desktop, $2295; 386 EISA, less than $4000; 486 EISA, less than
$5000.
