The ChartViewer is an 8-MHz 8088-based computer for your boating
safety and pleasure. It displays National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) navigational charts on an LCD screen.
ChartViewer can also receive LORAN through cables and a
connector and Global Positioning System and Satellite Navigation
information through a radio link.

You use ChartViewer by selecting your destination and hitting the
enter key. This creates a waypoint. When you select the second
waypoint, ChartViewer automatically draws a line. You can save up
to 3000 waypoints on a single chart disk. Other features include
pull-down menus, a zoom feature with 10 levels of enlargement,
and a Loran feature for determining location by dead reckoning.

Charts disks, which contain up to 20 charts, are available on
3.5-inch 1.44-megabyte floppy disks, also from In Focus systems.
ChartViewer uses a backlit 10.5-inch 640- by 400-pixel monochrome
flat-panel screen. The standard system comes with a system disk,
a 12-volt power cord, a 12-volt AC adapter, a LORAN plug,
transmitter, mounting bracket, battery, and carrying case.

In Focus has digitized all NOAA charts for "major" U.S.
navigational waters. International charts are under development,
the company says.

Price: $2995; chart disk, $139.
