Eltime Vision Systems claims that its Vinspex II is an entirely
new automatic visual-inspection system that can handle a variety
of inspection tasks. It looks for missing components in printed
circuit board assemblies, missing or incorrect labels on
packages, damaged containers, surface imperfections, printing on
cartons, and fill levels of containers.

First, you take a master picture of a standard piece, and then
you store it as a reference for the Vinspex II. The system works
by comparing the test-piece picture with objects on a moving flow
line. If it detects any differences or errors, Vinspex II sets
off an alarm or triggers a mechanical device to remove the faulty
piece from the flow line.

Based around the Image III image-processing system (see August
What's New International, page 80IS-26), Vinspex II uses the
input from a video camera to capture an unblurred picture of each
object. You use front-panel switches to synchronize the speed or
position of the conveyor belt and to set the system for
variations in grayness (light levels) and allowable error size.
Once you set these switches, the entire inspection procedure and
alarm facility takes only 0.2 second. Therefore, each test item
needs to be held in position for only about 100 ms for Vinspex II
to inspect it.

Price: About L5000.
