The 3200 laptop computer from Abbey Microsystems features two of
the latest technological advances in portable computing: a CCFT
(cold-cathode fluorescent tube) screen for greater legibility and
a power management facility to increase battery life.

The CCFT screen has a resolution of 640 by 400 pixels. You can
switch between black-on-white or white-on-black displays. The
power management facility runs the Abbey 3200 continuously for 3
to 4 hours from the battery and automatically powers down the
screen, hard-disk drive, and other components if you don't use it
for a user-specified period of time. The high-capacity battery
recharges at high speed through a built-in battery charger.

Standard features include a 12-MHz 80286 microprocessor,
1 megabyte of memory (expandable to 5 megabytes), and a
20-megabyte hard-disk drive; a 40-megabyte hard-disk drive is
available as an option. Ports include serial, parallel, keyboard,
and 5.25-inch floppy-disk drive options. The expansion chassis
incorporates two full-size industry-standard slots, and an
internal modem is available as an option. The included operating
system is DOS 3.3, but the Abbey 3200 can also run under OS/2,
PICK, Unix, or Xenix.

The Abbey 3200's dimensions are 36 by 32 by 6 cm, and it weighs
6 kgs. The company reports that it is currently working on a VGA
screen for the computer.

Price: L2395.
