Recent announcements from Panasonic Communications and Systems
Co. have included an inexpensive notebook computer and an
80286-based laptop. The notebook, model CF-150, is available now
and the laptop, CF-250, will be available in January.
 
Based on an 8-MHz NEC V20 CPU (compatible with the Intel 8088),
the CF-150 offers many features within its 12 by 2.5 by 10
inches. For example, DOS 3.3 is implemented in ROM. Also standard
is 640K bytes of RAM (expandable to 1.6), a 3.5-inch 720K-byte
floppy-disk drive, and a CGA-compatible 640 by 200 non-backlit
LCD screen. The removable battery has a quoted life of more than
4 hours.
 
The CF-250 is a 12-MHz 80286-based laptop with an 84-key keyboard
and a backlit LCD screen with 640 row by 400 column resolution.
It weighs 13 pounds and measures 3.5 by 14 by 12 inches. Standard
equipment includes 1 megabyte of RAM (expandable to 2), DOS 3.3
on ROM, a 3.5-inch floppy-disk drive, and a 20- or 40-megabyte
hard-disk drive.
 
Price: CF-150, $999; CF-250, $3999; CF-250 with 40-megabyte hard
disk drive, 4399.
